After a fail attempt at my brother Dave's first mounting
preference for his Stebil horn, we looked over the bike and I found a location
that I was pleased with that put the horn on the side and makes it look a
part of the bike. The Stebil horn is a 135db air horn all in
one package, horn & compressor. It is nice and loud but its packaging
makes it hard to mount on this bike which is short on frame bolts!
The first location was right behind the forks but the bracket
wasn't secured enough that metal fatigue soon took over. While
cruise'n down the road it fell off making a nice ding in the fender. He didn't
realize what it was until later when he went to
hit the horn and got the familiar "meep meep"....not the blast he had
gotten used to waking up cell phone drivers with.
We were so impressed with the result of the new bracket that
we made 4 extra to see if there was any interest on the forum
for any of these. We were up til 2am making these but didn't get
started until 9. After getting them all cut, drilled and bent into
shape, I broke out the powder coater and put a matte black finish on
them.
The bracket fits over the engine bolt and slides in
behind the crash guard. You can also see the damage on the front fender
from the first attempt at mounting the dearly departed Stebil no.1 airhorn!!
Here's a shot from the front.
Here you can see the nice matte black look. The rest of the bike was pretty dirty this night but Dave has been riding a lot lately!
The upper mounting bolt makes a good place for the ground wire, be sure to use an external or internal lock washer..
We installed a shorter bolt into the compressor mount.
Here you can see that there are tabs bent over the top of the
cylinder and it rests on the bottom tab. The bolt
really mounts the unit but with the tabs on the bracket the compressor cannot go
anywhere if the bolt comes loose.
Here is a final shot of the mounting with the front end locked to the right to show the clearance left between the horn and the forks.
We are selling the brackets for $20 plus $5 shipping.

Need a wiring harness to get the full effect of your Stebil horn? Wiring the horn to the stock horn wires reduces the voltage available since it has to travel through the horn switch. It is best to wire the horn directly through a relay to the battery and use the stock horn wire as a trigger to trip the relay. This way your horn gets the full voltage available from the battery and the compressor ramps up fast and loud! The Gonzo Harness has been used for years for running auxiliary lights on the light bars or engine savers. I can make the Gonzo Harness for the Stebil air horn which will include a fully loomed harness, taped at all ends, a relay, all battery and ground connections, a water tight blade type fuse, and chrome braided sleeving over the exposed areas. See more on the Gonzo Harness here: http://www.gonzos-garage.com/bike/harness.htm
The Gonzo Harness sells for $40.
Include $5 shipping for any orders....
