Suspension Completion

06/20/2005

I have completed the suspension build up using the CBR954RR shock and it is time for a test. I fired up Vicious this evening after finishing
up the last brackets on the final drive side to help support the new stresses it would be experiencing.

These new glasses have the retaining string that was bothering me...I am not adjusting an earring!!

Oops, That front fender light is barely held on and the wires are hanging. I remembered to take it off before I did!
Actually I was wondering why the front fender was so noisy!!! It was the light!

Bounce bounce bounce and test..... This was a very nice cush ride. It sits higher than I like when on the
side stand, but it sits perfectly when mounted.

Here you can see that I will have about 3 inches of travel room to where the fender will sit. I don't
think I will need that much room. The shock only has about 2 inches of total travel. But being at the front of the
swing arm, two inches there equals much more arch at the end of the swing arm.

Here you can see I had to weld box above the swing arm, then bolted 1/4" plate to it that has
a steel arm that mounts to the original shock mount. This is to relieve upward stress where the
final drive bolts to the swing arm. Also another bracket goes under the swing arm and bolts to the
axle and the other end has two bolts holding it to a plate welded below the swing arm.

Unsprung you can see how much higher it sits.

The breathers are located on each side and are still covered by the plastic sheeting. You can see the
layers of dust and particles from welding and grinding that are all over this bike! It due for a solid cleaning
soon!

Setting the rear fender on to see where it will ride when sitting on the bike. I plan on fitting about
2 inches lower in the seat when I have one custom made for it.

Another angle from the front.  The bike runs great at idle and take off but if I
give it a twist on the throttle, it cuts off completely. Also when in higher RPMs under
load. Otherwise I can run high rpms while sitting. Exhaust sounds raspy! I have a few
threaded holes to plug behind the air breathers and will pick those up tomorrow and
try again.

I ran around the block without the rear fender and no lights, I am in a quiet neighborhood.....well
other than the directionless kids who drove down the alley t0onight and shot out my neighbors
Suburban rear window with a bb gun about 10:30. Buttwipes. With my driveway gate I am protected
but have issues identifying the vehicles that go down the alley and a harder time shooting at them!
I love these gates!

Stay tuned for the next edition with the completion of the rear fender!!! Then paint!!
