The Great Air Intake Debate

Well, it is April 18 and I finally got some time in on the Shadow. Soccer season is over, the Valkyrie is
outfitted with its new 7 gallon tank, fuel gauge, and a few tidbits, it is time to concentrate on the Shadow.

I have all the parts to start the air intake. Here are the air breathers.

Next to design a mount for the Shadow. I am cutting 16 gauge steel with the plazma
cutter to make these brackets. It is stiff when tensioned but workable with pliers. This design gives
me three legs to mount to the bracket to the head fins which are bolt on using Alan head bolts.

Here it is mounted to the bike after being cut, fitted, refitted, twisted, dropped, thrown and finally
gave in. I painted it black but it won't even be seen (much) when finished.

Another view. Looks flimsy but that thing is solid! I wouldn't stand the bike on it though.

Here's the idea, fingers crossed while working on it....

I found some powder coated purple radiator flex hose that is very rigid (and purple too!) and
is 1.25" ID. I used a 1.25" ID hose adapter and copper tubing to get the bends I needed
behind the mount. I cut the rubber to allow extra room for the purple hose to make its bend.

Here is the first side mounted. The tubing goes up to there the original airbox mounted except
I have another rubber carb adapter on this end of the frame air tube.

A shot from the front...

and one from the side...it still has the plastic on it. I will take it off once it is finished. I will also
get more shots of the mount and hosing before the filter is installed on top of it.

more to come. Next project is repeating this on the other side....
